WINGS

This is not a jump shot toward the basketball hoop. It’s a jump shot I’ve been dodging for weeks—while making dinner, eating dinner, washing dishes, watching TV, and generally living in R-house—as R-boy has been attempting to reach the ceiling with his hand. Mom, do you think I can touch it? I can. How much [...]

OUTGROWING

Yesterday I came across this remnant of days gone by. A little hanger-on to what once was. And visions flashed through my mind of waking up to discover that the size 4T shirt that fit R-girl last Sunday was now creeping awkwardly up her belly button, or the shorts that were just the right amount of short [...]

SOMETHING’S MISSING

Tonight I came home late to R-house, and guess what I found when I walked in the door. Empty couches. Everywhere I looked. So, ok, sure. This actually happens to me on a fairly regular basis. Every other weekend, in fact, when R-kids are off spending time with their dad. But most every other night [...]

IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES. IT WAS THE WORST OF TIMES.

Those of you who know me well know that, with me, things are very rarely all this, or all that. If you ask me how I am, I might not ever respond with “Fabulous!!!” because, although I may be feeling somewhat “fabulous,” I probably also have a hint of “slightly frustrated,” or  ”hungry,” or “confused,” or just [...]

NEW HEIGHTS

The other night, on the edge of the closet door in R-boy’s room (which used to be R-girl’s room), we discovered that R-girl is just a hair away from meeting her goal. Or one of her goals, that is: To be as tall as me (or taller), which is somewhere in the vicinity of 5’11″. [...]

HEY SANTA

Last week I came across R-boy’s school journal from three grades back. The boy is brilliant. Check it out. Seriously. You could just go ahead and change a few details (make that an iPhone 5, I already got the pink couch but I’ll take another…), and that could pretty much be my Christmas list for [...]

OH BABY

Wait. Wasn't it just yesterday that my baby girl was weeks away from entering this world? How is it possible that I am looking at colleges with her these days instead of Peter Rabbit books????

SWEET SIXTEEN

Where, oh where, oh where, have I been lately?? Well, at the ball fields, mostly. And when I haven’t been there, every other free moment these past few weeks has been spent planning and preparing a secret surprise sweet sixteen party for R-girl. See, a few weeks ago R-girl mentioned she might want to do [...]

BEACHY KEEN

R-kids and I have been taking ourselves on a few in-town adventures lately. Like this one, to our favorite city lake on a 100-degree day last week.     And here’s the play-by-play version: xo __ P.S. All the best photos in this post were taken by R-girl

GET USED TO IT

The story of my life lately? With R-girl three weeks from her driver’s license and R-boy two months from teenagedom, the primary shift for me these days is learning to share the driver’s seat. And not just in the car. The view from over here is pretty much as challenging as it is incredible. xo
